Janet Whalen Photography Photoblog bio picture

Hi and thanks for stopping by!

I'm Janet Whalen and this is my photoblog. Here you'll find sneak peeks from client photo sessions (so keep an eye out for sneaks from your own session!) and news about Janet Whalen Photography and any specials or new products I may offer. You'll also see a whole lot more of my personal work....flowers, landscapes and images of the world around me that I want to share.

I hope you'll enjoy browsing around in this new site. As always, please feel free to leave me comments or questions and click onto my Portfolio tab at the top of this blog for a direct link to the Janet Whalen Photography website.

Ah the 80’s!

This is a busy time of year for family photographers. We spend long hours in front of our computers, editing those photos that will end up on your holiday cards or as gifts for relatives. To help make those hours more fun, I’ve started looking for old 80’s songs I used to love in high school on You Tube and listening to them while I work. Songs that take me back to the days of crazy hair-sprayed Madonna hair when CNN’s John Roberts was “JD Roberts”, a VJ on Toronto’s MuchMusic video channel.

Thought I would share some of them here for those of you (Elma?) who might remember. Up first, “Let’s Dance” by David Bowie:

Many faces of…

This is a new product I’m offering this year. This square collage is offered as a 12×12 or larger and comes mounted and ready to frame. And the coloured squares can be changed to match the decor of your child’s room.

This collage can only be created if we have many shots to choose from of your child and his/her funny, sad, sleepy, happy (etc.) expressions. For this reason, this product has to be prebooked and paid when we arrange your session.

What a great way to celebrate your child’s many moods, many expressions, and many faces!

Two more families to share…

….in the form of my popular storyboard/collage product!

Tough to choose…

I have so many fun images of these two kids to show but I know their mom is anxious to have a peek at a few so here are two collages to hold her over til the weekend:

Enjoy Colleen!

What a difference a year makes

Photo shoots with repeat clients are so much fun for me. Seeing the little ones growing and changing through the years is a real treat.

This was my third time photographing this family. I realized afterwards that a photo I took this year is very similar to one I shot last year. I think she has the most beautiful eyes.

A post with people in it!

It occurred to me recently that anyone looking at this blog recently might think I’m not photographing people anymore because I seem to post more flower photos than anything. Not the case!

To keep this short, I’ve created a few storyboards from recent shoots. Of course I offer these storyboards as prints too.

Welcome to my new blog!

I love this new blog!

The photos are so much larger which is going to be great for viewing your session sneak peeks!

It has taken me a few days to get this all set up, but everything from my old blog should be here now and it’s ready for everyone to see.

The only thing I don’t have (yet) is a nice vertical photo of ME for my bio photo at the top right of this page. Just like the shoemaker’s children, I’m a little behind as far as keeping up to date with photos of myself. The thing is, I’m usually behind the camera.

While I work that out, I thought I would just include a pretty blue hydrangea bloom because I don’t think I’ve ever posted that photo before. I will update it soon!

Til then, thanks for coming over and here’s a photo to show just how big and beautiful the photo posts will be from now on!

Some macros from our vacation in June…

Tennis anyone?

We were lucky enough to see the finals of the Rogers Cup in Toronto yesterday for both the singles AND doubles. Needless to say they were both great events and I got to try my hand at sports photography…..which is a LOT harder than it looks!

Here are a few of Rafael Nadal during his match vs. Nicolas Kiefer of Germany, just for fun:

And one shot of the guys and girls who really know what they’re doing at these events:

And just fyi….Nadal beat Kiefer 6-3, 6-2.
